Arun Sarna currently consults with the hedge-fund industry providing investment risk management and strategic quantitative analysis.

Prior to this, Arun was a partner and risk manager at Partner Fund Management (“PFM”), and was the risk manager at its predecessor firms: Andor Capital and Pequot Capital. His responsibilities included developing, implementing and continually enhancing a comprehensive and integrated risk management process encompassing portfolio volatility, stress testing and scenario analysis, liquidity analysis, stop-loss safeguards, and detailed risk-return attribution and performance-benchmarking analysis. In addition, he monitored the firm-wide risk profile on a daily basis and proactively appraised portfolio managers on risk escalation; conducted research on risk-reward relationships at the stock, index, industry, sector and asset-class level, including macro factor-based analysis; created stock screens and universes based on a variety of quantitative parameters; and met with clients to elaborate on PFM’s risk-management process.

Prior to that, Arun was director of risk management at Tiger Management, where he developed a comprehensive suite of analytical frameworks to analyze the various risk attributes of the equity, macro, and composite portfolios; developed tools for security and portfolio analysis; conducted research on risk-reward relationships in equity and macro markets; and updated senior management on salient changes in portfolio risk metrics.

Before Tiger, Arun was a senior vice president at CapMAC Investment Management (“CIM”), where his responsibilities included portfolio and risk management, developing new products and relative value-based trading strategies, and designing frameworks for portfolio and security analysis.

Prior to CIM, Arun spent a year at New World Investments, a hedge fund unit at Banco Santander, where he was a portfolio manager responsible for U.S. Fixed Income and relative value-based trading strategies.

Before that, Arun spent nine years at Morgan Stanley, where he was a vice president on the mortgage trading desk. His most recent responsibilities included creating, trading, and managing the risk of a synthetic mortgage product book (mortgage swaps, customized mortgage agreements and risk management products).

Arun has an MBA from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, where he was research assistant to Dr. Doug Breeden. His undergraduate work was in economics from Hindu College, Delhi University, in India.
